Veganism

Veganism is a diet that requires one to refrain from eating any and all animal products. It is more than just cutting out meat and dairy products, but a comprehensive lifestyle selection that strives to avoid animal cruelty and exploitation.

A vegan diet is varied and consists of all kinds of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, beans, and pulses. Almost all of people’s favorite things to eat can be suitable for a vegan diet if they’re made with plant-based ingredients.

For example; baking a cake a chocolate cake would have butter, milk, and eggs but as a vegan, all these items can be substituted. That is by using sunflower oil or almond butter instead of butter, coconut milk or soy milk to replace regular milk and banana, applesauce or water to replace the eggs.

Why? This is a question posed to people who are brought up as vegans, as well as those who are switching from a varied eating lifestyle to veganism. This is a sustainable lifestyle trend because these days, there are inexpensive and easily-sourced substitutes to just about everything.

The number of vegans has increased by 160% over the past 10 years

Veganism is a food trend that has been around for a long period of time but only hit a craze between 2015 and 2018. It may last for years to come but considering that there are other emerging food trends. This makes one wonder where vegans will be in years to come.
